Preceptor Training for Accredited Programs (PTAP)

The Preceptor Training for Accredited Programs, otherwise known as the PTAP, is a training program containing information preceptors are required to have in order to precept an EMS student from any of the region’s accredited EMS programs, which include: John Tyler Community College, Reynolds Community College, VCU, Southside Virginia Community College and ECPI. The PTAP meets the compliance needs of the region’s accredited EMS programs. Preceptors are required to take the PTAP once every 2 years.

The Preceptor Training for Accredited Programs is located on the TrainVA website (http://va.train.org/ ). A profile is required before proceeding. If you are a preceptor and do not have a profile on TrainVA, please visit http://va.train.org/ and create a profile. With your profile credentials, log in and perform the following:

  • Search “PTAP” in the Course Catalog
  • Launch and watch the PTAP video
  • Take the short quiz following completion of the video
  • Print your certification (expires in 2 years)

Please note: The Preceptor Training for Accredited Programs (PTAP) is intended for preceptors who will be precepting EMS students from the region’s accredited programs. The Preceptor Training for Accredited Programs (PTAP) is not intended to be used to precept EMS providers seeking field clearance at their respective agency.
