Recognizing Excellence and Dedication in Emergency Medical Services Across the Old Dominion

Henrico, VA – For over two decades, the Old Dominion Emergency Medical Services Alliance (ODEMSA) has proudly acknowledged the superior efforts and achievements of emergency medical services professionals through the Regional EMS Awards. Today, ODEMSA is excited to announce the call for nominations for the 2025 ODEMSA Regional EMS Awards, continuing its long-standing tradition of recognizing the best in EMS across the region.
The nomination period is now open, and we invite the community to submit nominations until May 31, 2025, to honor individuals and teams who have demonstrated exceptional service, dedication, and excellence in the field of emergency medical services.
Award Categories and Opportunities
This year’s awards program features an array of categories designed to acknowledge the diverse roles and exceptional contributions within the EMS system. Categories include:
- Excellence in Emergency Medical Services
- Innovation in EMS
- Outstanding EMS Prehospital Provider
- Physician with Outstanding Contribution to EMS
- Outstanding EMS Prehospital Educator
- Outstanding EMS Agency
- Outstanding Contribution to EMS Health and Safety
- Nurse with Outstanding Contribution to EMS
- Outstanding EMS Leadership
- Outstanding EMS Telecommunicator
- Outstanding Contribution to EMS for Children
- Outstanding Contribution to EMS Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Outstanding Contribution by a Student – $1,000 Scholarship (Application)
Award recipients not only gain regional recognition but also receive a nomination for the prestigious Governor’s EMS Award, offering further acknowledgment at the state level. High School Seniors and GED recipients under the age of 21 are also encouraged to apply for an award accompanied by a $1,000 scholarship, with the regional award winner eligible for an additional $5,000 scholarship through the Governor’s EMS Award.

About ODEMSA
Established in 1978, the Old Dominion EMS Alliance (ODEMSA) is a nonprofit charged by state law to assist in developing and implementing an efficient and effective EMS delivery system. There are a total of 11 Regional EMS Councils across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Old Dominion EMS Alliance is one of the largest and most diverse regional EMS councils in Virginia and is defined as the 9,000-square-mile region made up of Virginia Health Planning Districts 13, 14, 15, and 19. The region involves 26 hospitals, nearly 100 EMS agencies, over 6,400 EMS providers, and serves 1.48 million residents.
Our service area includes the counties of: Amelia, Brunswick, Buckingham, Charles City, Charlotte, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Goochland, Greensville, Halifax, Hanover, Henrico, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, New Kent, Nottoway, Powhatan, Prince Edward, Prince George, Surry, Sussex; the cities of Colonial Heights, Emporia, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Richmond; and the towns of Ashland, Farmville, South Boston, and South Hill.
Standing Committees within the ODEMSA structure include Air Medical, Peer Support/CISM, EMS Patient Destination, Medical Direction, Mass Casualty Incident (MCI), Pharmacy, Performance Improvement, Training and Education, STEMI Steering, and Stroke Steering.
