A recent survey of trauma handoff reports at VCU’s Emergency Department has shown that following the MIST (Mechanism, Injury, vital Signs, Treatments) format is associated with improved report completeness. The survey highlighted the need for increased awareness and education surrounding the standardization of EMS handoff reports. To address this need, we created this short 10-minute video and the attached MIST Trauma Report aid. We hope that you take the time to watch it and try to implement the MIST format in your patient handoff reports.Â
